Offensive Practice Plan by JUGS Sports

This Offensive Practice Plan was compiled by Jim Reichenbach. Jim has 18 years of coaching experience at many levels including Babe Ruth, Cal Ripken League, high school, and seven years at the college level. Jim has earned the reputation of one of the top instructors in his field.

Practice time frame: 10 min. stretching. 10 min. setting up stations. 2 players each station. If you have more than 14 players, adjust accordingly. Remember, each station should be left as found for next player.

Station 1: Cage Hitting (Approx. 12 minutes)

Set up the JUGS Curveball Machine throwing fastballs behind a JUGS L-Shaped Screen in a JUGS Batting Cage Net and Frame. Use the JUGS Sting-Free Yellow-Dimpled Baseballs. Each round will consist of (2) Hit and Runs (swing at any pitch and try to hit a groundball up the middle), (2) Move the Runner (hit the ball to the right side; runner at second no outs), (2) Bring the Runner In (sacrifice fly with runner at third and less than two outs) and (5) Hit the ball back up the middle (trying to hit the back of the net). The Curveball Machine, L-Shaped Screen, Batting Cage Nets and Frames and Practice Baseballs can be purchased separately or together in the JUGS Albert Pujols Baseball Backyard Package.

Station 2: Bunting (Approx. 12 minutes)

Using the JUGS Jr. Baseball Machine and Baseman Screen, set up down the first-base line with a Bucket of JUGS Pearlsâ€"coach feeds the machine. First Round: Bunt (5) down the first-base line, and (5) down the third-base line. This is a sacrifice, so remember to only bunt strikes. Second Round: (5) drag-bunts each. Remember, make it a base hit or foul ball. Do not bunt it in the vicinity of the pitcher.

Station 3: Tee Hitting (Approx. 12 minutes)

Set up the JUGS Hitting Tee and the JUGS 5-Point Hitting Tee with two JUGS Instant Screens on the far sides of the Multi-Sport Instant Cage. Use the JUGS Sting-Free Balls at this station. The hitter on the single tee hits (18) balls, working on getting his hands inside the ball on a pitch that is inside slot. The hitter on the 5-point Tee hits (18) balls and is working on driving the outside pitch to the opposite field gap. After players finish the 18 balls, rotate to theother tee. The Hitting Tee, 5-Point Tee, Instant Screen and Practice Baseballs can be purchased separately or in a JUGS Package.

Station 4: Soft-Toss (Approx. 12 minutes)

In the area behind home plate, set up a JUGS Toss Machine and JUGS Instant Backstop. Have the Toss Machine set up for an outside pitch. Work on being directional and driving the ball towards the opposite field gap. Take 14 cuts, then rotate. The Toss Machine, Instant Backstop and Practice Baseballs can be purchased separately.

5: Short-Toss (Approx. 12 minutes)

Set up the JUGS Multi-Sport Instant Cage at home plate. Coach will throw live from 25 feet away, behind the JUGS Short-Toss Screen. Each player will get (5) outside pitches, (5) inside pitches and (5) pitches down the middle. The Multi-Sport Instant Cage, Short-Toss Screen, Pearl Baseballs and Back-Saver Ball Basket can be purchased separately or together in the NEW JUGS Short-Toss Package.

6: Shagging for Station 5 (Approx. 12 minutes)

This station is responsible for returning the balls hit onto the field from Station 5 and returning them to the NEW Pujols Ball Bucket located behind the JUGS 8’x8’ Fungo Screen.

7: Curveball-Hitting Drill (Approx. 12 minutes)

Set up a Baseman Screen, the JUGS Lite-Flite Machine and JUGS Lite-Flite Screen 30 feet from the hitter. Throw right-handed curveballs using JUGS Lite-Flite Baseballs. Hitters work on driving pitches to the opposite field gap. 14 cuts then rotate hitters. The Lite-Flite Machine, Lite-Flite Screen, and Lite-Flite Baseballs and can be purchased separately or together in the JUGS Lite-Flite Package.
